In July 1989, Bogdan Marzewski boarded a plane to Canada with two suitcases and $300.

He was leaving behind Communist Poland — a system built on surveillance, fear, and the slow suffocation of ambition. A couple of weeks earlier he had graduated from teacher's college. He arrived in Montreal with his wife, survival-level English, and no guarantee that any of it would work.

It worked.

From Communist Paradise to Freedom is the memoir of what happened next — and what Bogdan learned across nearly four decades of building a life in Canada: thirty years in the classroom, and the harder lessons that came from living. It is not a story of extraordinary heroism. It is a story of ordinary courage: the kind that gets you out of bed the next morning when you have no idea what you are doing.

"Your Iron Curtain may not be made of concrete. It may be the voice in your head that has been telling you what you cannot do since before you were old enough to argue back."

Each chapter carries two things: a story from a life lived across two continents, and a lesson pulled directly from it — not theory, not borrowed wisdom, but the kind of understanding that only comes from having no other choice but to figure it out.

Every chapter is a story. Every story has a lesson.
